Hakeem Lawal, son of the late Governor of Kwara State, Mohammed Alabi Lawal has won the governorship ticket of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kwara State for the 2023 general elections.
Hakeem recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress government to the SDP following irreconcilable differences in the party.
Hakeem defeated five other contestants with 33 votes to emerge the candidate of the party at the primary election held on Wednesday in Ilorin.
DAILY POST reports that the result of the primary election showed that the former VC UNILORIN and chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Professor Oba Shuaib Abdulraheem, scored 16 votes, Khaleel Bolaji got zero votes, Kale Belgore also received zero votes, while Engr Sunday Babalola and Tajudeen Audu scored two and 10 votes respectively.
The primary election was supervised by the national officials of the party, INEC officials and security agencies.
