While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary elections have been concluded in some states of the federation, the reverse is the case in Taraba State.

At the time of filing this report, delegates have not arrived at the venue of the election at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, along Mile Six.

Apart from the delegates, the party officials, as well as those assigned with the responsibility of conducting the exercise, are yet to be present in the venue set aside for the exercise.

Though the venue is agog, as relevant preparations have been put in place, the absence of election officials, has, however, become a source of concern to observers who have been at the venue since 10am.

Some observers who spoke with our correspondent expressed sadness at the way and manner the party has continued to delay in commencing the exercise.

DAILY POST found that the delay in the commencement of the exercise is the result of the party leadership being pressured to choose the candidate of the former Minister of Defense, Theophilus Y. Danjuma.

Danjuma, it would be recalled had recently endorsed the incumbent state chairman of the party, Kefas Agbu as the party governorship flag bearer.

A chieftain of the party who spoke with DAILY POST on telephone said, ” the leadership of the party is in talks with some of the aspirants, we are still trying to convince them on the need to step down”.

At the time of filing this report, three out of the seven governorship aspirants, as reliably gathered by our correspondent, were said to have signified their interest to step down.

Our source from the meeting who said the primary would not exceed today is optimistic that the entire aspirants will soon step down for Kefas.”
