Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, believes Liverpool’s failure to win any of their games against Manchester City, Chelsea or Tottenham this season may have proven costly in the race for the league title.

Liverpool missed out on the top spot in the Premier League table by a single point to Manchester City on the final day of the season.

And Shearer believes that just one victory in one of those fixtures against their top-four rivals would have made the difference.

“One small thing you could say that they could have improved on is their record against the top four,” Shearer on Match of the Day.

“Played six, they have not won any of their games, they didn’t lose any either, but that is a tiny detail that they can look back on and say, ‘Those are the three teams [Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham] not winning a game’.”
