Alex Iwobi has expressed his excitement after playing a crucial role in Everton’s relegation fight in the English Premier League in the 2021/22 campaign.

The Super Eagles star had played a peripheral role under Spaniard Rafa Benitez before his sack.

Things however changed for Iwobi after Frank Lampard arrived at the Goodison Park later in the campaign.

The versatile winger was handed a starting shirt in the 3-1 home win against Leeds United in February and has never looked back since then.

Iwobi became a regular afterwards and won over the fans, most of whom had criticised him for his inconsistent displays since his arrival from Arsenal in 2019.

The Toffees also managed to beat the drop after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Crystal Palace in the penultimate game of the season.

The 26-year-old took to the social media to show his appreciation following Sunday’s game at his former club Arsenal.

“The most mentally challenging season of my career so far is over and I’m proud to have come out of the other side stronger, sharper and hungrier than ever!” Iwobi wrote on his Twitter handle.

He scored two goals in 28 league appearances for Everton during the campaign.
