A member of the House of Representatives from the southeast, Hon Nze Chiekwe Esiaga, has suggested ways the All Progressives Congress can amicably resolve the leadership crisis bedeviling the Abia State chapter of the party.
Esiaga called on the leadership of governing APC to implement the report of Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led national reconciliation committee, which was earlier set up in 2021 by the immediate past National Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
The ex-federal lawmaker, who represented Aba North and Aba south federal constituency at the national assembly, was making the call in an open letter addressed to the National chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on the backdrops of current composition and formal inauguration of the Abia APC Reconciliation committee chaired by Senator Chris Adighije who doubled as current Pro-chancellor and Chairman Board Council Federal University of Lokoja in Kogi State.
Recall that the lingering internal crisis bedeviling the Abia chapter of the APC widened following the outcome of the parallel gubernatorial primary elections which took place on 26th May 2022 in Umuahia, the state capital.
DAILY POST gathered that two governorship candidates emerged from the concluded APC parallel primaries held in the state ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2023.
They are the immediate past Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah, and former Pro-chancellor and the Chairman of Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu state, Chief Ikechi Emenike.
Both candidates are already in court seeking judicial interpretation on the authenticity of the conducted exercise, and the actual winner of the gubernatorial primary elections held by All Progressives Congress in the state.
But the APC chieftain from Abia state, Nze Chiekwe Esiaga, while stating his stand on the current composition of Senator Adighije-led Abia reconciliation committee in the letter issued to journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, maintained that the APC Integrity Group led by former Nigerian minister, Uche Ogah is opposed to the arrangements and composition of the Abia committee, and also posited that the reconciliation committee is peopled by loyalists of the factional state leader of the party, Ikechi Emenike.
He partly stated, “Last month, Ikechi Emenike realizing that he wasn’t going to make it come 2023, decided to reach out to Senator Chris Adighije, and compiled names of those who will serve in the reconciliation committee. Senator Adighije used to be on our side, but last month, he reconciled with him.
“Emenike appointed Adighije the chairman of the Abia APC reconciliation committee, and also appointed Hon Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, a serving member of the national assembly representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency, as his secretary. This Nkeiruka Onyejiocha had been with Ikechi Emenike right from day one in their factional politics. And our own authentic leadership was not carried along.
“If we were carried along by way of telling our leader, Dr Uche Ogah to make inputs into the composition of the APC reconciliation committee, then there is fairness, but there is no fairness now. And that is why I’m saying the reports of Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led reconciliation committee be implemented.”
