The Nigerian Navy, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibaka, Akwa Ibom State, said on Monday it arrested three persons with 4,750 litres of products suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) along Effiat waterways in the state.

The Base Operating Officer, Lt.-Cdr. Daniel Onyemaeze, disclosed this on Thursday while handing over the suspects and the exhibits to the Superintendent Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense and Corps (NSCDC), Candidi Odo, for further investigations and actions.

Onyemaeze said the products seized were 19 drums of suspected PMS of 250 litres each and one wooden boat.

According to him, “This morning, the FOB Ibaka is handing over 19 drums of suspected product to be PMS to NSCDC. They were intercepted by our personnel in FOB Ibaka during our routine patrol at waterways.

“This is inline with the mandate of Chief of Naval Staff to curtail illegal activities and criminal activities in the water ways.”

Receiving the suspects and exhibits, the Superintendent Corps of NSCDC, Odo, commended the efforts of the Navy in reducing illegality to the barest minimum at the waterways.

He, therefore, urged the Navy not to relent in the good works even as he promised that the command would conduct further investigation and prosecution of culprits.
