Senator Ahmed Kaita, Dr Shehu Garba Matazu and Sirajo Aminu Makera have emerged winners in the primaries conducted in their respective zones

While Senator Kaita, a current member of the 9th senate who recently crossed from the All Progressives Congress APC, won unopposed, the ticket for the North Senatorial Zone, the winners from the central and south senatorial zones had to slug it out with other contestants.

In Katsina central senatorial zone, the battle for the senate which ended in favour of Sirajo Aminu Makera was keenly contested between himself, Musa Mohammed Sada with 45 votes and Gambo Hamisu with 78 votes.

Similarly, in Katsina South Senatorial Zone Dr Shehu Garba Matazu polled 267 votes to beat his main challenger, Sani Anani who secured 86 votes.

Announcing the result for the Katsina Central Zone, Aminu Bello who chaired the committee that oversaw the exercise said,
“Having certified the proceedings of the election conducted today, I, Hon. Aminu Bello, by the power conferred on me by the national working committee of our great party, PDP, hereby declare Sirajo Aminu as the winner of the Katsina Central Senatorial Zone having polled the highest vote.”

Speaking after the exercise, the 2023 PDP senatorial candidates expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to them by the delegates.

Sirajo, the winner Katsina Senatorial zone said, “We thank God for making this event a very peaceful one and I am really humbled to have emerged as a winner. My opponents fought very well and they are very understanding. We (aspirants) already agreed to accept the outcome. That’s why you can see that even before the result was announced they were already congratulating me.

Senator Kaita on his part expressed gratitude to God for securing the ticket. He also thanked the delegates for finding him worthy of the position.

According to Kaita, since he defected to the party, he has been receiving tremendous support from party stalwarts, promising effective representation for his constituency if reelected in 2023.

He equally used the opportunity to call on aspirants who lost to remain loyal and united.

The electoral process was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agents, the media and other stakeholders of the PDP.
